Our Programs

Every major religious tradition speaks of the importance of caring for our planet and all of its inhabitants. At the Interreligious Eco-Justice Network, we work to build a religious response to global warming. IREJN has many programs available to help you reduce your carbon footprint, both at home and in your place of worship.

For example, your congregation can raise awareness about climate change by participating in Earth Day Preaching. You build a strong earth ministry program at your congregation with tools and idea from our Green Houses of Worship program. As an affiliate of the CT Roundtable on Climate & Jobs, IREJN is part of a groundbreaking partnership with the AFL-CIO and other labor unions to work together for a green economy. And don’t forget to check out the delicious recipes in our Climate Kitchen!

Growing Your Earth Ministry

Our religious communities and houses of worship are powerful voices for our beautiful earth. Through practical, educational, and spiritual practices, you can build environmental stewardship at your place of worship.  Below are our cornerstone programs for building an effective earth ministry program within your faith community.

Green Houses of Worship

Green Houses of Worship is a four-tiered recognition program to acknowledge the steps your religious community has taken to be kinder to the planet.  Each tier contains actions to take to build a sense of environmental stewardship and help your congregation be more environmentally responsible. As you achieve each level, you will be presented with an elegant certificate to display in your house of worship.

IREJN Garden Project

The Green Houses of Worship Garden Project encourages congregations to plant gardens, of whatever size, whatever type, engaging all ages in the greening of the Earth. IREJN Member Congregations have access to consultation from master gardeners to help plan projects suitable to your property, and the interests of your congregation.

Energy Efficiency

IREJN provides a set of documents to help in your Home Energy Solutions campaign and awards small grants to help houses of worship offset energy efficiency measures at their house of worship.
