IREJN’s Response to Trump’s Withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord

Please read IREJN’s Official Response to President Trump’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord.

President Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord is a disaster, a short-sighted and immoral act. It not only removes the United States from the community of nations, it ends America’s global leadership. It will greatly stunt economic growth and is another assault on an already severely damaged Earth and the most vulnerable people. Our breaking of this agreement is a moral and ethical failure.

Although the President’s decision further endangers the world, this is not a time for despair but rather for action. If anything, the President has clarified the moment sounding the clarion call to take a stand for climate action. The time to act is now; there is no turning back. We can no longer hope that the federal government, at least this administration, will lead us in the struggle against the disaster that is climate change. We call on our Creator to help us in our huge task because it is now up to us.

Signed,
Rev. Tom Carr, IREJN Chairperson
