Since 1974, 84,000 chemicals have been introduced into commerce that are not included in the Safe Chemicals Act. Largely untested and unregulated, these chemicals are in products that we use every day like our food, our cosmetics, our clothes, our cleaners. Not surprisingly, rates of cancer, neurological diseases, and developmental disabilities have skyrocketed in that time – in fact, childhood cancers and leukemia have increased by twenty percent. Clearly, we are in a chemical crisis.
IREJN is working to protect kids from toxic chemicals, educate people about what is in their food, and encouraging religious communities to use green cleaning products to reduce our exposure to toxins.
