From its excessive use of fresh water to the toxic by-products it produces, fracking is dangerous and destructive to our health and the health of the planet! Senate Bill 237 would ban fracking waste from being disposed of or treated here in Connecticut. We are fully supporting SB 237, as a complete ban on fracking waste is what is needed to protect the inhabitants of CT and prevent the toxic contamination of our state.
What is fracking, anyway? Fracking is short for hydraulic fracturing and it involves injecting a mixture of water, sand, and chemicals into the ground to fracture the rocks surrounding an oil or gas well. Incredibly water-intensive, millions of gallons of this toxic fluid are needed for this process. It generates a tremendous amount of toxic waste, contaminating the water we drink, while transporting the waste and building the infrastructure damages the environment and pollutes our air.
Fracking is inherently unsafe and must be banned. Here in CT, we don’t frack, so we can’t ban it, but we can ban the fracking waste from crossing our state lines. The bill we are supporting is SB, 237, An Act Prohibiting the Storage or Disposal of Fracking Waste in CT.
