IREJN’s October Appeal

May the blessings of the Rain be on you –

the soft sweet rain. May it fall upon your

spirit so that all the little flowers may

spring up and shed their

sweetness on the air.

In times of climate change and environmental devastation, these words bring calm and comfort. From Anne Rowthorn’s Feast of the Universe, “The Blessing of the Rain” describes the healing power of nature, the way it refreshes your soul, washing away despair to reveal hope.

And may the blessing of the Great Rains be on you,

may they beat upon your spirit and wash it fair and

clean, and leave there many a shining pool where the

blue of heaven shines, and

sometimes a star.

It is this deep and abiding hope that inspires the Interreligious Eco-Justice Network. Together, we are moving forward, lifting the voice of faith in defense of our planet and all its inhabitants.  Educating. Inspiring. Advocating.  Addressing climate change, toxic pollution, and biodiversity loss. Together, we are standing with friends and allies, and together, we are doing the work.

IREJN has received a generous $50,000 match donation to honor the memory of Anne Rowthorne, a longtime supporter of IREJN and a member of our Advisory Council, who published many wonderful books of earth-inspired worship resources. Can you make a donation today to help leave a lasting legacy for our children and grandchildren?

In 2023, IREJN members have advocated powerfully for the planet and for people most oppressed by climate change and pollution – and it is your support makes this possible.

Climate change. Understanding that energy efficiency is critical to addressing the climate crisis, IREJN helped members reduce their energy usage in their houses of worship and in their homes. Almost 150 congregations have participated in our webinars on energy efficiency so far this year!

Food justice and biodiversity. The impact of climate change and pollution on food and native plants is devastating.  Donations to IREJN supported religious communities as they installed and expanded vegetable and pollinator gardens, providing fresh produce to communities in need and creating native landscapes to support the wildlife that we all need to thrive.

Policy change.  IREJN members advocated for environmental justice legislation that was successfully passed and signed into law this June.  Our members continue to urge for strong policy on energy efficiency and renewable energy, toxic chemicals, and wildlife protection.

Your donation will make a difference this year – will you make a gift of $100 this year to help us meet our $50,000 match?  Your contribution is fully tax-deductible.

And may the light shine out of your two eyes,

like a candle set in

two windows of a house, bidding the

wanderer to come in out of the storm.

Renewed with hope and rooted in justice, we are powerful beyond measure.  Together, we can meet this moment.

And may the blessing of the Earth be on you – the great round earth. And may G-d bless you, and bless you kindly.
