IREJN to honor Deacon Art Miller at the Earthkeeper Dinner

We are thrilled to announce that we are honoring Deacon Art Miller, nationally-recognized preacher, author, and civil rights activist, with the John W. Spaeth III Earthkeeper Award at the 6th Annual Earthkeeper Dinner on Thursday, May 9 at the Pond House Cafe.

A boyhood friend of Emmett Till, Deacon Art’s life was forever changed by Emmett Till’s murder and his book, Journey to Chatham, tells the story of that time from the perspective of Emmett’s friends. Emmett’s murder began a lifelong commitment to civil rights advocacy and justice for oppressed people. Deacon Art has traveled the country, inspiring people to become involved in combatting racism and injustice where ever they find it.

The former Director of the Black Catholic Ministries of the Archdiocese of Hartford and a nationally-known preacher, Deacon Art has inspired countless people with his message of the need for “Radical Love,” which can only be known through the grace and power of Jesus Christ.

Whether Deacon Art is protesting injustice in the streets of Hartford, or inviting youth to come pick fruit from his fruit trees, Deacon Art creates a Beloved Community where ever he is. IREJN is thrilled to present him with the Earthkeeper Award in 2024
